RLJ 30/04/13

These style of lectures with Neil (W) feel very overwhelming, really felt nervous when he said he is going to split the group at some point this morning, where I'm concerned that the lecturer I have when the group is split won't understand me, and how difficult I find things. Also my laptop wouldn't connect to the college wi-fi straightaway this morning, but I eventually got it to work. However, this did divert my attention from what was going on in the class.

The not understanding thing and the style of these lectures very much reminds me of when I was at high school, where the lecturer will give the lecture, just like a teacher would teach a class and give out information and I often find this difficult as it does feel like a less personal style of lecture, and I don't feel I can express myself as much.

Today's lecture was about a very nerve wracking subject: Artwork Analysis and Group Critique of our own artwork we have done at college, which I find super scary because

Neil did bring a sculpture he had made and spoke about how it was influenced by dance, and that it was part of a series of sculptures made from bronze. It certainly looked interesting, as it did have a Futurist feel to it, and was supposed to capture motion. I felt it also could have resembled a superhero, or the first thought that came into my mind is that it looked like a bunsen burner.

We then had to split into groups and present a finished piece of our work and talk about it, how we made it and what we like/dislike about it, which to my surprise, went very well for me, even though my moth did go a bit dry, but I have learned a cause of this can be nerves and social anxiety, something which has been suggested to me that I have symptoms of. I decided to talk about my gladiator project, as that has been the most rewarding thing I have done this year so far. I was also fascinated by some of the other art students work, and how they talked about their worked and what inspires them.
